Funeral Sentences for Damaged Cells, Digital Album

FuneralSentences_Bandcamp.png

This album is the most recent from composer Kaley Lane Eaton, with performances by Emily Thorner and Kin of the Moon.

As described by the composer, the album “traces stories of disease, reckoning, and trauma through generations of [her] American family through the poetry of [her] late mother, late grandfather, and [her]self. As it mirrors the Anglican funeral sentences, it becomes an elegy for the dead.”

We wanted to really play into cellular imagery combined with religious undertones and hints at semi-ancient motifs, as seen in the stained glass window. I combined illustration of rosehip neuron cells into a mosaic framework such as used by stained glass windows, and chose murky deep purples, reds, and pinks.

The desired effect was to create something familiar and classic yet psychedelic and trippy; to highlight the dichotomy between an older art medium with something that only modern day science could discover.

In addition to the layout and imagery within the digital album pdf, I supplied the main banner/backdrop for the album’s bandcamp page.

Please note that I have only included a few pages of the digital album here. To view the album in its entirety, it may be purchased here.
